Project Update:

The Kenley Airfield Friends Group is delighted to announce that after 3 years of hard work, working in true partnership with the City of London, the Kenley Revival Project has secured £880k from the Heritage Lottery Fund. Together with money raised by KAFG and other local groups, the total funding amounts to over £1.1m. This will be invested in conserving the remaining blast pens, rifle range and the fuel depot, together with a comprehensive Activity Plan for the airfield. This plan will see a revamped website, a dedicated learning officer, paid for by the project, community archaeology, learning festivals, guided walks, heritage days and an oral history project. The later is designed to record local people's experiences of RAF Kenley during World War II and both pre and post war. There will be new signage across the airfield with information - four of the new signs will be in the form of a Spitfire's wing. Work starts immediately. This really is an exciting time and for those interested, there will be unique opportunities to become involved in celebrating RAF Kenley.

To be continued...
